Guacamole, or Guac (as my stoner friends like to call it) is one of the most popular dips in the world, and it’s pretty easy to see why. I mean have you tried the thing? IT’S AMAZING. It also happens to be a low-carber/ketoer’s dream, if said person is trying to get more healthy fats into their day without eating butter (lol). With this Keto Guacamole Recipe, I tried to push it as far as I could.
We all know that Guacamole can be so different from one cook to the other, and this version has all of the things that I love about Guacamole. ALL THE THINGS.
The Above-Mentioned ‘Things’
A classic Guacamole is usually made with avocados, cilantro, chillies, red onions, lime juice and of course tomatoes.
About them tomatoes … I love them, I just don’t see why they should be in Guacamole. In my experience they tend to water down the entire thing and take away from that amazing creaminess that makes Guacamole what it is. They just kind of sit there like “yeah we’re the OG but you’re not sure if you like us in here…”
Also, I had a couple of massive Caribbean avocados (the. best.) and I automatically thought “Guacamole”. If you don’t know what Caribbean Avocados are, go find them in your super market, you’re in for a treat. They’re worth it.
Why My Keto Guacamole Recipe is Different
For me, the ideal Guacamole is a dip that is conceived to make the mighty avocado shine. Certain ingredients can take away from the avocado, like hot peppers, onions, and tomatoes. It’s not that they make it bad, they just make themselves pop rather than the avo.
That is why I swapped the red onions for green onions, the chilies for cayenne powder and tomatoes …. well they were used in a salsa, where they belong. #SavageMode #TomatoHater (jk I love tomatoes)
In addition to that, I added some full-fat sour cream to make this Guacamole even more creamy and to balance the acidity of the lime juice. It was amazing. I finally have the perfect guacamole recipe.
If anything, that’s one of the things we love so much about guacamole – it has the quality of being a family-style recipe that’s unique to you. Haven’t thought about it that way? If ever you’re having a party, ask your guests to bring make their favourite guacamole recipe, make yours, buy a bunch of chips and have a guac party. You’ll see just how much someone’s personality can come through, through their guac.
Does your family make guac differently? Let me know in the comments! You can totally take the base of this recipe and make it your own! If you do, please know that one of my favourite things is to see you guys use my recipes! Even if you turn them into something completely different, I just love food and talking about food. Of course if you decide to do that, you must share it with me on Instagram @broke_foodies – see you there!
